Hey everyone! My name is Dana and I’m looking for help with medical bills from some health issues I had this year. So this story is equal parts frustrating as the person who went through it, and hilarious as the person writing it. On October 8th I started having some health issues that would result in a two and a half month saga of hospital stays, doctors appointments, and lots of adult diapers.

Did I mention I’m 28, single, and living on one income? I work full time as an academic advisor, I have health insurance, and STILL wracked up a bill of over $6,000. Without getting too graphic, the issues began in my stomach and spread to other organs, intestine, pancreas, etc. I began losing control of my bowels. Yup. Can’t make this shit up! Pun intended. I was having intense stomach pain and bathroom trips 10 to 12 times a day. I couldn’t eat or function normally. I was basically bed-ridden for weeks.
I was determined to still work because I don’t have anyone else supporting me, but after you shit your pants at work in an adult diaper, it’s time to take a leave of absence. Which is what I did. (Unpaid btw). After ultrasounds, HIDA scans, colonoscopy, endoscopy, stool sample testing, endless blood work, several different medicines and failed treatment plans, my team of doctors FINALLY figured out that I had some severe stomach infection that most likely came from a leafy green (seriously don’t eat romaine!).




I was prescribed Xifaxan, which my insurance company denied. It’s $2,500 out of pocket. FML right?? I was able to get some free samples at first but they quickly ran out.

Needless to say my sad little income could not handle all of the bills associated with this. Not to mention I bought my first home this year and pay all my bills on my own. I have picked up a part time job but even with that it still hasn’t seemed to make a dent. I would be forever grateful to anyone that would be generous enough to help me!
