Meet Alexander.
Alexander is a 16 year old teen born with VACTER-L syndrome. He has had numerous surgeries throughout his young life. A few weeks back Alexander had open-heart surgery to repair his Tetralogy of Fallot and in addition, required a valve replacement. Three weeks post-op, Alex developed a severe Organ space infection with infection surrounding his lung and heart and in his blood. He has been taken back to surgery tonight (9/15/2019) for a wash-out to get rid of the severe infection however, there is a 30% chance he will have to have the whole valve and other repairs re-done and will have substantial time in the hospital, then at home as he recovers.
Alex and his two other siblings’ mother passed away several years ago which left the family to rely on their dad, Chad, as the sole provider and caretaker. Chad as he wears many hats and cares for Alex and his two other kids. This family of strong faith always keep moving forward under adversity.
Over the course of the past month, his dad, Chad, has not been able to work more than a few hours and is using FMLA, which means he has no income. Chad will be missing at least about two more weeks of work without pay barring further complications from Alex’s surgery. Although he has health insurance, he still has bills to pay, pay for the insurance itself and copays, food to provide for his children, rent and car payment and other expenses to pay. Because he lives paycheck to paycheck as a laborer, his family has set up a gofundme account to offset some of these expenses.
We appreciate any kindness you can provide for Alex and his family. Blessings to all of you willing to help a working family out during this crisis.
Thank you on behalf of Chad's family.
Kindest regard,
Angela (his sister).
