On Saturday 3rd May 2025 I am walking with a group to complete the "abcd 3 Peaks of Saddleworth Challenge" - it will take around 8 hours to complete. It is to raise money to help fund the After Breast Cancer Diagnosis motivational exercise retreats. This is a weekend experience for breast cancer patients to connect with other patients through physical activity and peer support.

Why? Dealing with cancer is tough, but recognising that I was not able to return to my old self got me searching for the motivation to keep going - luckily I came across the advertisement for this fully funded retreat. I tried Nordic Walking (among other things), bought the poles, kept on walking and then recently trained to be a Nordic Walking instructor! I am now offering free Nordic Walking sessions to members of Pink Sisters and Misters, my local cancer charity. The retreat put me on a new track and it feels great to have a purpose again.

I am taking part in this fundraiser so that others can benefit from one of these wonderful retreats organised by the inspirational founder of abcd, Jo Taylor. Jo has been living with incurable breast cancer for over 11 years, and she is one of the lucky ones. A number of the previous retreat attendees have died of this terrible disease and we will be remembering them on the last summit. Most of the fundraisers have attended one of the retreats and have had primary breast cancer or are living with metastatic (secondary) breast cancer - this is our way of giving something back.
