Hello all! My name is Diane and I don’t want like to reach out and ask for help but at this time I have to get my son home and his transport and medical expenses are building. On Sunday July 9th myself and his Dad received the worst call every parent dreads. On the other end of the phone was a hospital in Chicago IL stating our son had had a massive cerebral stroke, he was on a ventilator, paralyzed from the neck down, a feeding tube would be placed, and some hard life decisions would need to be made. Mike and myself mustered everything we had after such an extremely hard call and made the trip to Chicago Monday morning. After arriving we would be misinformed and decisions then would not be ours to make. As any parent we were heartbroken but our hands tied. We would come home and I would start making phone calls, weaving our way in and out of the medical terms being thrown our way such as locked in syndrome, tracheotomy, and more. Misinformation would be corrected and we are now tasked with getting our son home closer to us and getting him a forever place. He is able to communicate with anyone only through vertical eye movement. Today he is now able to breathe on his own through the Trachea with low oxygen which is a huge step in the transport home. I’ve made calls, gotten prices, spoken with insurance, and worked on getting final numbers on the costs of ALS ambulance to bring him home. After getting him back in KY his Medicare insurance will take at least 2 months to set up and kick in. We are tasked with getting our boy home and getting him the care he will need to get him to a better quality of life. Our lives are now forever changed but as parents we push through and do what is needed for our son. Thank you in advance for all help and prayers.
