In Memory of Ruben Hernandez

Ruben Arsenio Hernandez was a man of love, courage, generosity, and faith. He never failed to express his gratitude for life, even in these last three years where he continuously battled lung cancer. After each surgery, chemo session, radiation appointment, and hospitalization, Ruben never gave up fighting for his life and his family. 

Unfortunately, this summer his cancer rapidly took over his body unlike ever before. After various painful and restless days, my dad took his last breath on Monday, October 18th. As much as it breaks our hearts, we know that he now rests peacefully with a heart full of love and strength. We know God watches over his soul and is guiding him towards a path of tranquility and joy. 

There are not enough words to describe the bravery exemplified by my father these past years, especially these last few months, but he is immensely honored by everyone around him. As a father, husband, brother, and son, Ruben never failed to bring happiness, love, and kindness into the heart of others.

Rubén Arsenio Hernández fue un hombre de amor, generosidad y fe. Nunca dejó de expresar su gratitud por la vida, incluso en estos últimos tres años en los que luchó continuamente contra el cáncer de pulmón. Después de cada cirugía, sesión de quimioterapia, cita de radiación y hospitalización, Rubén nunca dejó de luchar por su vida y su familia.

Desafortunadamente, este verano su cáncer se apoderó rápidamente de su cuerpo como nunca antes. Después de varios días dolorosos e inquietos, mi papá respiró por última vez el lunes 18 de octubre. Por mucho que nos rompa el corazón, sabemos que ahora descansa en paz con un corazón lleno de amor y fuerza. Sabemos que Dios vela por su alma y lo está guiando hacia un camino de tranquilidad y alegría.

No hay suficientes palabras para describir la valentía ejemplificada por mi padre estos últimos años, especialmente estos últimos meses, pero todos los que lo rodean lo honran inmensamente. Como padre, esposo, hermano e hijo, Rubén nunca dejó de llevar felicidad, amor y bondad al corazón de los demás.
