The family of Raella Gilbert received devastating news shortly after her 1st birthday that she had an inoperable brain tumor's called Optic Chiasm Hypothalmic Glioma...while the news was heartbeaking the family was left with no choice but to save their baby girl. Raella immediately started doses of chemo...the family traveling back and forth from Brainerd to the Minneapolis Children's Hospital for treatments, Raella her family and friends spent the next 18 months praying for some sign that the chemo was working. Relief came for Raella, her family and friends that the tumor's were dormant and Raella's body would get a break....sadly after 6 month's Raella's tumor's began to again grow, again Raella and family had to endure more chemo. Raella again began chemo treatments in July of this year and traveling back and forth every other week to the Children's hospital. Sadly Raella passed away Wednesday Nov. 18th after going into the hospital to get checked for a fever and cold, no one ever expected that her little heart had enough and she would not be coming home. The family and friends had no warnings, no time for goodbyes, no time to even prepare for this as she showed no other symptoms other than the cold...many got to know Raella as they followed her story and found out what a truelly amazing little princess stood before them. A benefit was held on Raella's behalf and it was an unforgettable day...so much love and support for a little girl with a fight so big! The money raised at the benefit helped the family get their head above water, pay for a couple large outstanding medical bills, other bills that had been adding up over the last year and half plus, travel to and from her treatments, and help with the unpaid time off from work...but because over half of Raella's life was spent fighting for a cure, the family had already used any and all means possible to be with the baby, 401K's had been cashed out to make ends meet, credit cards had to be used, any paid time off from work was used up...now today they were faced with the question on how the funeral bill is going to be paid, they are checking into county help but this will not cover even half of the amount that was given to them to expect for funeral costs. They can do a payment plan which is half down and the other half due in 30 days...the family had been able to finally get a few bills taken care of and not have to worry about taking time off to be with their little girl but are now faced with this....something that no one could prepare for or even want to. Please find it in your hearts if at all possible to help this family, anything and everything helps.
