Gabe's Brain Tumor Battle

Donation protected
Hello Friends, Family, and Supporters of Gabriel Ordonia.

For those of you who know Gabe, you'll see the reason on why we chose this cover photo. For those who don't know Gabe, the answer is simple: He's always smiling, so every photo almost looks the same. Gabe is a positive, smart, and courageous man. His kindness to others is infectious. Gabriel is a son, a brother, an athlete, a volunteer & mentor. He is an outstanding friend to a lot of people and manages his time between his academic circle, his rugby family, and his industry friends. Gabe always makes you feel welcome, and he is always lighting up the room he is in with that smile we all know.

On November 22nd 2023 Gabe suffered a fall & seizure while working his job as a security professional. He was rushed to the hospital where they shortly after discovered the tumor in the front left side of his brain.
The tumor was diagnosed as Low Grade Glioma. Gabe has since been at home taking it easy and is currently awaiting surgery to remove the tumor and this will occur right away in January 2024. As LGG's have different mutations, there is no way to tell if it is positively cancerous until the removal is complete and a biopsy is done.
There is a lot of in depth information online about these tumors and the risk factors around them and the removal. But I really wish to keep our thoughts positive on this page. If you need more information you can read about LGG's through Alberta Health Services resources online.

We are all here to come together for Gabe and his family as they need the strength and courage to prepare for the surgery, and the recovery to come after. It will be a fight, but for this tough knuckles rugby player, none of us have a doubt he will kick butt.

We are fortunate to live in a country, and in a city that has one of the best medical teams in the world for this type of situation. We are fortunate for health care coverage which will take care of most of the medical expenses.

But there are still financial implications to Gabe and his family for this challenge. So we are coming to you asking for help to raise money for Gabe and his Mother Romina so they can focus on the matter at hand.

Funds raised will go towards:
  • Covering Gabe's expenses while he is out of work from now through the recovery process. (eg. Cell phone bills, student debts etc.)
  • Covering his family members to be at the hospital throughout the process. This commitment from his family will rack up daily parking costs, as well as groceries or take out food while they stay by his side.
  • Difference of cost on prescriptions. Benefits may not cover the remaining percentage of the medications he will need.
  • Recovery aids and modifications to his home. The surgery will be invasive and the recovery process will require some adjustments to his room, and items for his home. The surgery carries some risks with motor function and benefits does not cover additional at home physiotherapy equipment.

Gabe is the type of guy who told his friends "No" to starting this go fund me. He always wants to find a way on his own. His friends are here to tell him "Yes" and in Gabe's spirit of giving, any additional funds above and beyond what him and Ordonia family need will be donated back to the hospital, and foundation(s) routed towards his condition. More information on this will be provided to donors as Gabe's battle unfolds.

We thank you for thinking of Gabe and his family and appreciate whatever you can donate.

We will keep you updated throughout his battle against this tumor, and if you have any questions at all, please contact us.

God Bless.
