RYT 200 hr Yoga Teacher Certification
Donation protected
Hi friends and family!! I have something super excited to share. My name is Janelle and I have been practicing yoga for a little over a year now. I started practicing yoga due to my struggles with mental health. I wanted to find a soothing outlet from the stress of life and being in a challenging healthcare professional degree program. Currently, I am a full time graduate student in pharmacy school.
It’s been on my mind and heart to pursue Yoga Instructor Certification. I have also been nudged in this direction by a few yoga instructors that teach at the yoga studio I attend. As mentioned prior, yoga allows me to feel grounded, to destress after a long day at work, to just let go. I wholeheartedly believe that practicing yoga and mindfulness can aid in healing trauma. It’s have been proven that yoga and meditation reduces cortisol levels as well as reduce anxiety and depression symptoms.
I am a huge advocate for diversity as well as mental health. Mental health disorders disproportionately affects ours brown and black communities.
Prevalence
According to SAMHSA’s 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health:
- Sixteen percent (4.8 million) of Black and African American people reported having a mental illness, and 22.4 percent of those (1.1 million people) reported a serious mental illness over the past year.
- Serious mental illness (SMI) rose among all ages of Black and African American people between 2008 and 2018.
In this yoga teacher training I will learn the fundamentals of yoga philosophy, anatomy, poses, history of yoga, meditation, breathwork, sequencing, peak-poses, theming, as well as hands-on adjustments. The training starts November 13th.
By becoming a certified Yoga Instructor, I wish to bring what I have learned and my passion back to underrepresented minorities with an emphasis on black communities. Mental health isn’t something that is often talked about, but I hope to heal and shed my light on those that need it. With pharmacy I have learned first-hand how important it is to diversity all spaces. Here in the Midwest there is a need for black yoga instructors. The most common ethnicity among Yoga Instructors is White, which makes up 77.1% of all Yoga Instructors. Comparatively, there are 9.3% of the Hispanic or Latino ethnicity and 6.4% of the Black or African American.

This has been a true passion of mine that I am unable to pursue at this time without support due to school associated cost so any donation or even a share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!! ❤️
