NSW Bush Fires - Supporting John Smith's Family

Donation protected
Loved Friend & South Coast Local, John Smith, aged 71, died tragically as a result of the New Year’s NSW South Coast Bush Fires in the last days of 2019.

John leaves behind his wife & ‘love of his life’’ Josie & their beautiful 10 year old daughter Emerald.

Thinking he would be safe, on Monday 30th December, John decided to check & clear bush around his Bodalla property.  John lost contact with Josie & was reported missing.  He was found days later by his heroic friends & neighbours who managed access to his property in very difficult conditions.

John worked for TAFE NSW at the local Moruya Campus & retired in 2017.  John’s family, friends & colleagues knew John to be kind, spiritual & a man who understood life.  With a deep sense of compassion & action towards humanity & nature, John appreciated his friend’s qualities & was always giving in his admiration & praise for others.

Josie & John enjoyed art, music, gardening, playing guitar & writing songs together and simply being with each other.  Emerald emanates her father’s giving spirit.  On December 8th, the Long Beach RFS posted a Thank you to Emerald on their Facebook page.  She had used her birthday gift cards to purchase snacks & make individual goodie bags for her Local Firies. Little did she know how much they would be needed & what was ahead.  You can read Emerald's story here:

There is a Fundraiser at The Dock Kingston, Canberra on Australia Day, January 26th 2020.  Australia Day is John's Birthday.

Funds from this page are set up to directly transfer to Josie.  Money raised will assist Josie and Emerald during this difficult time and help alleviate financial burden.  Josie is humbled and very grateful for everyone's generosity.
