Mom on a Mission
Donation protected
Hey everyone!
The purpose of this fundraiser is to help my mom raise enough money to buy a truck. But before going into any details of why she needs a truck, I would like to share her testimony.
In 2009, my parents, Paul & Su Chong, gave up their comfortable and secure lives in America to serve as missionaries in China. Many friends and family thought they were crazy (people tried to persuade them not to go through with it), but my parents were determined to answer the call and share the gospel with the people of China. They served faithfully from 2009-2014 before they were caught at Mai Ja Yang (China-Myanmar border). Sharing anything about Christianity without the Chinese government's supervision and approval is illegal, and when they were caught, they were immediately deported and banned from ever reentering the country.
Discouraged but not defeated, my parents were able to find new opportunities in the country of Myanmar through the connections they had established by going through the China-Myanmar border; this was where their ministry started to flourish. From 2014 to the present day, my parents were able to create a pig farm, build a small hospital, and open three orphanages called "Promise Homes."
Despite the remarkable success they were experiencing, there was a significant struggle with having a reliable form of transportation. My mom and dad had purchased a run-down truck, but they would suffer many problems traveling with the car, especially when they would commute between the different Promise Homes, located about 6-9 hours apart. To make matters worse, Myanmar is one of the poorest countries in the world and incredibly underdeveloped. That said, many roads are not well-constructed or easy to travel on, and a 4x4 truck is required if you want to travel across the country without issue.
In the year 2020, their prayers were answered. A fellow missionary named John had a truck, but due to the pandemic, he was stuck in Thailand and could not return to Myanmar. He let my parents borrow the truck, which would serve them well until they had to return it to John at the end of 2021. Unfortunately, they were once again without a reliable form of transportation.
On July 25, 2021, Paul Chong passed away after being diagnosed with COVID-19. Around the same time, a military coup threw the country into chaos.
Many people were concerned with my mother's well-being considering she had just lost her lifelong partner, the country's instability due to the military coup, and the pandemic shutting down the world. Friends, family, and various churches and organizations pleaded for her to return to the United States and retire.
Most people in her position would probably have given up, and I wouldn't blame them. But not my mom. In her mind, the job was not finished. Things were just getting started.
She decided to continue with the ministry she had begun with her husband.
My mother needs a 4x4 truck: Many roads in Myanmar are abysmal, and it is not easy for regular cars to travel long distances across the country. If you would like to help my mom continue with her ministry and become a part of it, we welcome everyone that would like to support her. Thank you!
God bless.
