Hello Friends, Family, Neighbors and people who just know the power of helping each other out in these difficult times!
My name is Marissa, the youngest daughter of Kelly and David, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my parents—After years of compounding hardship, they find themselves in a crisis they cannot overcome alone.
Recently, my father, David, suffered a severe stroke that has left him unable to walk. He is currently in a stroke rehab facility outside of Austin, working to regain strength and mobility. His cognitive abilities remain strong, and with the right level of care, he has an 80% chance of walking again—but the road will be long, and once he is strong enough, he will need to receive a heart valve replacement. The resources needed are far beyond what my parents have.
On top of this, my mom is navigating her own serious health challenges. She lives with a rare chronic illness and is still recovering from a reverse shoulder replacement after a traumatic fall during COVID. Her dominant arm never regained full mobility, making it impossible for her to physically care for my dad on her own. She has relied on him not only for support at home but also financially—support she no longer has.
Over the past few years, their emotional, physical, and financial struggles have intensified. My dad was laid off at the start of COVID and fell into depression while trying to find stable employment. Together, they lived off their very limited income and have now exhausted their savings. The stroke has drastically changed their ability to get back on their feet.
Despite everything, my parents continue to face each day with courage. My hope is that they can age with dignity, stability, and the same sense of community they have always given to others.
Asking for help is very difficult for both my parents, and this is my way of supporting and encouraging them to do so, and sometimes it takes a series of personal and collective crisis' to acknowledge that we cannot do this life without one another.
While we work to secure social services and long-term solutions, they urgently need help, they fall in that age gap 61-64, don't qualify for Medicaid and too young for Medicare.
Expenses:
• Transportation for my dad when he has doctors' appointments, the ambulance is not covered by insurance
• Medical supplies
• Personal hygiene items for my dad
• Medical insurance for (Jan 1, 2026) - $20,000 deductible before insurance kicks in.
• Credit card payments from medical expenses.
• Convert 1/2 bath into a full shower, wheelchair accessible downstairs ( my dad won't be able to walk upstairs, all bedrooms are upstairs in their townhome)
Ways You Can Help (big or small):
• A one-time or monthly donation through GoFundMe
• Setting up a Zelle donation to my mom (under David Sieck at [phone redacted])
• Purchasing my mom’s artwork (she is incredibly talented)
Larger impact gifts for those able:
• Pay off remaining mortgage: $39,900
• Pay off credit card debt: $15,000
• Support ongoing medical bills (amount TBD)
• Want to remodel a bathroom? Add ramps, etc?
Every contribution—financial, practical, or simply sharing this with others—truly helps.
Thank you for loving my parents enough to show up for them during this incredibly vulnerable time. They have spent their whole lives caring for others, and my dream is for them to finally feel cared for in return.
If you have any questions, please reach out. I’ll share updates as they come and continue to communicate any needs that arise.
To everyone who has already been supporting them with meals, rides, visits, phone calls, and daily kindness—thank you. Community care is powerful, and you are making a difference.
With so much love and gratitude,
Marissa, Mom, Dad, Grandma Fran, Whitney and Family & Friends
