Friends, family & generous strangers!
This gofundme is to help our wonderful friend Shannon.
Shannon is one of the most kind, hardworking and determined people i know and she's faced a very challenging time recently. I know she has such an amazing community of friends from all over who have already done so much to help, so a huge thank you. If we could rally to raise some funds to give her some extra help during this stressful and painful time I know it would mean the absolute world to her.
As many are aware, Shannon has been working incredibly hard mentally and physically pursuing a career becoming a firefighter. She’s was actively in the process with two large fire departments. However, fate took an unexpected turn when she suffered a severe injury while hiking, breaking her fibula & tearing the ligaments on the opposing side. This injury has been absolutely crushing for her as it has meant she had to forfeit her position in those fire departments.
Now, Shannon finds herself in an incredibly challenging situation. Until she recovers, she is unable to drive - making her unable to leave Canada. Please read below to understand where immediate help is needed!
1. Medical Bills: Since this happened outside her home country/she doesn’t have insurance, Shannon cannot have the surgery needed without paying upfront! The cost of the surgery alone is roughly $6k.
2. Housing : Even before her injury, Shannon was in the process of finding a new place to live for herself and her dog Briggs. She's still looking for a place to leave and we all know how difficult that can be in Vancouver , even more so with a dog and a broken leg!
3. Job loss : Shannon had to let go of her dream job, (hopefully only temporarily) but is now also out facing this recovery without any source of income until she can find something when she is recovered enough to drive/ put weight on her leg.
The financial goal we set takes into account the following :
Cover her mounting medical bills and ongoing treatment. ER = $1,700, Surgery ≈ $6,000, additional medical bills ≈ $1,000
Secure a safe and stable home for herself and her pup, Briggs. Hoping to help cover at least a down deposit/first month rent.
We understand that times are tough for many, any amount helps, as well as encouraging words, insight on jobs/places to live or temporary homes for her dog all go a long way during this time. Thank you for helping her get back on her feet & regain her independence
