SM Northside Little League Fire

On Friday, April 24, 2015 at approximately 8:30 pm, vandals set fire to some trash cans near the Northside Little League's storage and snack bar building. The flames grew and the fire quickly engulfed the new roof causing severe damage to the building and supplies within. In addition, these vandals covered the bathrooms and building with graffiti.

Northside Little League players, parents, coaches, and staff spent countless hours and money making the fields a safe and welcome place for area youth to participate in the great sport of baseball (Little League). Whoever did this may have destroyed the hard work that was done, but this won't destroy the heart and soul of the boys and girls who share a love for the game and the community that has supported these youth.

The loss and damage incurred by this selfish act of vandalism has caused a tremendous sadness among the league which is made up of over 350 young players ages 4 to 12 as well as parents, volunteers, and staff. The impact on this community is huge because not only are the players affected by this, but so are the neighbors in the area who now have to look at a burned snack bar across from their homes.

Before the start of the 2015 season on March 6th, Richard Melena of West Coast Roofing replaced the roof for us.  We now have to replace the fascia, flashing, and sections of plywood that were destroyed and the electrical wiring in the snack bar needs to be repaired. The estimate for damage and loss is approximately $5,000, however, we are seeking $6,000 for incindentals that may occur.

We are desperately seeking financial help from the Santa Maria Community to get the snack bar back in running condition again. There is a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) who did this. If you have any information please call the Santa Maria Police Department at (805) [phone redacted] ext. 277 or [phone redacted].  Information can also be sent directly to Julius (JJ) Ford by going to the league's Facebook page and sending a private message.  All reporting parties will remain anonymous.

Thank you for your support and please share this with friends and family so we can rebuild and restore the building and mend hearts that have been broken by this terrible act of vandalism.
