I'm creating this page for my sister Leslie Jackson. Her husband, Rick, was admitted in the hospital at the beginning of October, he wasn't able to breath and could hardly walk and he lost 30 pounds for not being able to eat. After some test they found a tumor on his diaphragm and told Leslie that it looks to be cancer. They did a biopsy and confirmed that he has a rare form of cancer called Sarcoma. Unfortunately there's no specialist in the DFW area that can treat for Sarcoma, so, Rick is being referred to MD Anderson, http://www.mdanderson.org/locations/index.html, in Houston.
At this point in time we do not know how far along the cancer is in Rick, the Oncologist he originally spoke with isn’t an expert in Sarcoma and gave them very little to go on. Leslie and Rick are leaving for Houston today.
They have 3 children, DJ, April and Autumn. As you can probably imagine, on top of the emotional stress this has also created a huge financial hardship on their family. When Rick was admitted, Leslie had to take off of work to tend to her kids, even though DJ and April go to school during the day they still have Autumn at home who's only 1 years old. Because of her missed days at work, she was let go.
What they really need right now is money to cover her gas, food for her children and hotel accommodations for Houston if needed. Everything is up in the air at this moment until Rick meets with a specialist at MD Anderson. So, it could be months of treatment he's looking at, it's just not certain at this time. So that can mean many trips back and forth for Leslie. Any help you can give this family would be very much needed and appreciated.
