Medical expenses for Nicole Gillett

In March 2020, at the age of 31, Nicole went to the ER for a headache that she had had for days. A spot came up on the scan that her small-town hospital thought was an abscess and told her that she needed to go to a bigger hospital. Nicole then went to Beaumont hospital, where she underwent surgery to remove a 5+ cm tumor from her right frontal lobe and was diagnosed with astrocytoma. After a few weeks of recovery, she began cancer treatment, which consisted of 6 weeks of proton radiation and a year of chemotherapy.

 

In July of 2021, Nicole went in for a follow-up scan, which showed no signs of progression and that the original spot was 75% healed. Her cognition began to decline at the beginning of August, along with her mobility. She was unsteady on her feet, forgetful, and often confused. With her functioning continuing to decline, another scan was ordered for October.

 

The scan in October 2021 showed a lesion mid-brain. Doctors believe that it is cancer progression; however they did not do a biopsy because the risk of her losing all physical and/or cognitive functioning was too high.

 

In December 2021, Nicole had another scan which showed that the lesion had doubled in size. Nicole's cognition and mobility continued to decline, and she now requires around-the-clock care. The cost for her medical expenses, including at-home care, has depleted any savings that they had and continues to put a financial strain on them. As of the beginning of January 2022, Nicole was enrolled in hospice care to make her comfortable.

 

The money raised from this GoFundMe will be used toward Nicole's medical expenses and care to help alleviate some of the financial burden and stress they are facing.
