Cancer Picked the Wrong Diva!

Donation protected
In September, while establishing care after finally moving back to Illinois, it was found by her gynecologists that she had a large mass in her uterus. It had been causing her multiple symptoms over the previous months and she just not feel like herself.

On October 15, 2019 , Kim had to have a hysterectomy due to the large mass. It was expected to try to save one ovary if they could, but after looking at the ovaries, it was determined both ovaries could not be left due to multiple cysts encasing them. All tissues were sent to pathology and it was determined that the masses on the ovaries were a secondary form of cancer coming from elsewhere. After days in the pathology lab, it was traced back to the colon.

She then had to have a colonoscopy to obtain more information. It was then that she had been diagnosed with Colon Cancer, that had spread to her ovaries and liver.

Then after much searching, she established care with Northwestern Memorial Hospital, who scheduled her port placement. A port is a central line implanted in the chest, that is accessed for lab draws and for her chemotherapy infusions. She started her chemotherapy November 11, 2019. Her Chemo consists of every other Monday going to Northwestern for lab draws and 5 hours of chemotherapy. Then she is connected to a pump with continuous chemo at home until Wednesday afternoon.

She unfortunately is unable to work during this awful time and does not qualify for disability due to not working for the company long enough after moving to Illinois.  The required time is 1 year and she had been there 8 months.

All in all Kim has had to have a total hysterectomy, colonscopy, CT scan, port placement, PET scan and now her chemotherapy. She is scheduled to have a repeat CT scan on December 30th to see if her treatment has improved the cancer. If so, she will need surgery to remove the mass and resect the colon.

Her insurance premium is $550 a month, medications are $150 a month and also her son Bryson’s yearly checkup for his liver transplant costs $3,000 out of pocket. While not working and still having to pay for insurance is obviously a financial burden.

Throughout all of this, Kim and her family are remaining positive!! We all have her back and know she can fight this, because she is a fighter! Any little bit helps if you are able to, but please share this.  We are eternally grateful for any help anyone can give. We are all standing behind her and will be there all the way! She's got this!
