Help Esperenza's Recovery From Massive Infection

Esperenza is a sweet little fighter who has no use of her back legs and came to us in the fall of 2021! She was sent to a foster home and never returned to our organization. On August 11, 2022 we were alerted to a post stating that Esperenza was ill. The same post said that if funds were not raised Esperenza was going to be euthanized.

We contacted the attending clinic and Ontario Animal Welfare Services showing proof of ownership and were finally given Esperenza back so she could get necessary medical care. Within 30 minutes in our care, she saw a vet. She would have had to have waited hours otherwise at the clinic she was at. Unfortunately, the extent of Esperenza's illness was much more extensive than anyone anticipated. At the original clinic we were told that it was a suspected she had a blockage, but it turns out she was almost septic, her body was full of infection from an untreated bladder infection. Wheel chair dogs are prone to infection when they are unable to express their bladders on their own.

Esperenza has now been in intensive 24 hour in hospital care since August 11th and is expected to be there until further notice. Her infection was so extensive she had almost no white blood cells. We will continue to report all findings to animal welfare services.

She has seen an internal specialist and pending seeing a neurologist. She is also showing signs of kidney issues which she did not have while we were in contact and in care of Esperenza.

Our intention is solely to keep Esperenza safe and healthy making sure all her needs are met.

We are a small organization with limited funds but could not watch a dog be potentially euthanized over something treatable, so we stepped in legally and did right by Esperenza.
