On August 8th, Carmen went into the emergency room from an odd lower abdominal pain she had for 2 days that just wasn’t going away. After many exam, test, and blood work Carmen was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Since we were in a pandemic Carmen called us to come in after the doctor talked to her. We assumed they found early stages of an erupted appendix and she’d have to be admitted and watched over, but hearing her voice on the phone I knew I was walking into something worse, I just didn’t want to believe it. Hearing those words the doctor said, well that moment will haunt me forever. What feels like just yesterday has been 7 months since her diagnosis. Louie & I can’t even thank everyone enough for all the prayers, positive vibes and etc. We knew she had her family, but to see her friends, old and new reach out really showed how much she is loved. To the softball and baseball community lil Louie & Carmen grew up in, thank you for reaching out to let her know she’s in your thoughts and prayers. To her church community, this was a huge time she needed your strength and faith by her side, thank you for never letting her feel like she was alone. And last but not least to our family, even with the few ups and downs we’ve gone through in the past, you all showed up for Carmen when she needed you the most, with love and hope. These months haven’t been the easiest, physically or mentally but all thanks to God today Carmen is hitting her 6 months post surgery!! We wish we could celebrate with everyone to thank you all for being there for our Carmen, but in due time we will come together and celebrate that Carmen is CANCER FREE!
