Supporting a black single mother to create.
In continuing the spirit of my younger self, I will be teaching myself bass guitar, production and engineering. As well as, putting together a home studio so that I can stay close to home and buy equipment necessary to teach myself.
My name is Harmony Pike, I’m the seed born out of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora. I am a singer/songwriter/guitarist/storyteller who has contributed to the arts culture space in Toronto/GTA for the last 5 years. I’ve performed in various venues across the city and most notably opened for R&B legend Tank. I sing not only to create but to tell my story. I grew my love for singing and storytelling through the church and have always held a high dedication to my art. When I was 21 years old, I taught myself how to play guitar while pregnant with my daughter. I wanted to gain agency over my storytelling and foster a closer relationship to music as a whole. Today, I’m fundraising to continue that spirit and take control of my music making process.
It’s no secret that systemic racism is prevalent in the art spaces, oftentimes blocking out those most marginalized from acquiring the tools needed to succeed and create. What we don’t often talk about is how even more difficult it is for those of us who are parents living outside the downtown core. As a proud black single mother living in Scarborough, I am experiencing this inaccessibly first hand. There is already a significant lack of support and funding for artists like myself in the city. Additionally, COVID-19 has made it increasingly more difficult for me to create as an independent artist, as I live with 2 immunocompromised people. Your donations will assist me in gaining more agency over my songwriting and creation process.
