Hi everyone! As you may know, I have a consult for top surgery scheduled in April 2022, and will hopefully have the surgery not long after that.
I’m in a decent spot in terms of saving for this life-changing procedure, but my worry is that, while I am currently on my mom’s insurance which should cover most of the costs, I turn 26 in June 2022, and can’t guarantee I’ll still be on her plan by the time I actually have my surgery.
I set the goal of this campaign at $8,000 because of the varying quotes for the cost of top surgery that I have seen, but I don’t yet know what this would cost me out of pocket for a variety of reasons, including the insurance problem mentioned above. If this campaign raises more money than I need to cover the surgery and aftercare costs, any additional funds will be donated back to the trans community with emphasis on low-income trans women of color.
50% of any additional funding will be given directly to other trans folk’s campaigns and fundraisers
25% to Black and Pink National, “a prison abolitionist organized dedicating to liberating LGBTQIA2S+ people and people living with HIV/AIDS who are affected by that system through advocacy, support, and organizing.” Black and Pink National recently opened Lydon House, a transitional house serving formerly incarcerated Black trans and queer people in Omaha, NE.
25% to Brave Space Alliance, “the first Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ+ Center located on the South Side of Chicago, and designed to create and provide affirming and culturally competent services for the entire LGBTQ+ community of Chicago.”
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
