Hi, my name is Michael Barnett. I’m 57 years old and I live in Cecilia, Kentucky with my adult son, who is my full-time caregiver.

This is my first time starting a GoFundMe, and I’m doing so out of necessity. Life has become incredibly expensive, and I’m struggling to keep up with the growing costs of living and healthcare.

I have Stage 4 Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Lung and it’s spread .I rely on a BIPAP/ventilator to breathe, at night but my insurance only covers 50% of the cost. I also depend on oxygen daily, and even that is only covered at 80%. I have seven doctors I regularly see, and with every visit comes co-pays, tests, and specialist fees — all of which add up fast. On top of that, I’m responsible for paying for a large portion of my prescriptions out-of-pocket. My loan on my farm is a Bridge loan where it can be $600 to $1,000 each month. I also have credit card debt from buying gas,food and medicine.

I receive a small amount of food stamps, but it’s not enough to support two people. My son doesn’t work because he’s caring for me 24/7 — managing medications, helping with mobility, and making sure I’m safe and stable every day.

What makes things harder is that my truck, which is our only form of transportation to medical appointments, is in desperate need of repair. Without it, I can’t get to the doctors I rely on to manage my health and ongoing cancer treatments — which include imaging, blood work, and radiology services that insurance doesn’t fully cover.

I don’t like asking for help, but I’ve reached a point where I have no choice. If you can donate, no matter how small the amount, it would truly make a difference in my life. And if you can’t give, please consider sharing this with others. Your kindness means the world to me and my son.
