Synopsis:
In the harsh dust bowl landscapes of rural Oklahoma, a young boy yearns to join the rag-tag group of kids who make a living hunting crows for his father, the local butcher. However, as the vilified birds begin to guide him to new understandings about his family, he and his newfound friends embark on a journey to discover their secrets.
Our creation process:
We met in film school and both knew right away that we would become friends and collaborators. After working together on several projects throughout our time in school, we set out to co-create a film together. We started off knowing we wanted to tell a story about crows, and have spent the last year and a half learning, researching, and writing together, bringing to life the world of “Nowhere, Oklahoma”. Set in the height of the dust bowl, we felt impacted by stories of ecological devastation and of human perseverance through these hard times. We felt impassioned by stories of newsboy solidarity in modern era New York city, which led us to set our sights on writing about a group of children who had each other’s backs above all else. Now, our lovely little crew, made up of Woody, Lancelot, twins Blackjack and Lula, and a little one named Skunky, are going to be brought to life, and we are so excited to share them with you all!
Thank you to Asher Borison for the character concept art! : )
