Hello! My name is Megan McLain, and I am asking you to help me put my script on film.
NOW HEAR THIS is the story of HELEN. After a sudden tragedy, Helen is at a crossroads in her life. The decision she makes will impact her life and the lives of her family. To what effect does a life event alter our priorities and actions becomes the burning question.
NOW HEAR THIS is a passion project born out of a promise made to my dear friend Olympia Dukakis several years ago. She was to be the lead. Unfortunately, she passed away last year, but not before I had the beautiful opportunity to read to her what I had written up until that visit. She squeezed my hand and said, "It's good. It's really good." I honestly did not think I would be able to finish the project, as I vividly saw Olympia in the role and the scenes as clear as day as I was writing. But I was reminded that I made a promise and that I should finish the script. And that advice was what I needed to hear because I made a promise, and I do not break promises. So, this screenplay is for her, to Olympia, with love.
NOW HEAR THIS is already gaining recognition on the screenwriting and film festival circuit. As of today, 7 June 2022, NOW HEAR THIS has a 100% acceptance rate into festivals and continues to win awards.

What the funds will go towards:
Pre-Production costs: Publicity, festival entries, location scouting, making a shooting schedule, casting, hiring crew, licenses, insurance, permits, costuming, props, and set design are some expenditures off the top of my head. There is A LOT that goes into pre-production! There are three different "interior sets" and three "exterior sets" again spanning from 1943 to 1994.
Cast salaries: There will be a "principal cast" of 4, “supporting cast” of 4, “minor cast roles” of 5, and 10-12 extras ($10,000 minimum)
Costumes: Three different periods the mid-1940s (including military uniforms), mid-1950s, and 1994. The principal cast (1994) will need at least three other costumes, as will the actors in the 1950s scenes. Costuming will be authentic to each time period.
Hair & Make-Up: This is a "period" piece spanning 1943 to 1994; Multiple hairstyles and make-up styles will be needed to authentically portray each period.
Crew & Equipment: Cinematographer, camera operators, camera assistants, script supervisor, prop masters, set designers, sound and lighting, production assistants, equipment rental, and other crew needs. ($20-25,000 minimum)
Music Licensing- Among the music I want to use for this project: are Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now and two Glenn Miller Songs, That Old Black Magic and Moonlight Serenade. (TBD)
Catering & Crafty: Have to make sure everyone is well-fed. No joke, this is one of the essential parts of any film or tv set. (TBD)
Post-production: Editor, sound design, sound mixer, sound editor, color correction, trailer, film festival submissions ($8-10,000)
Miscellaneous: Office supplies and all those things that "come up" at the last minute, or should we go over time (which hopefully does not happen).
