Help my father get a new excavator after the wildfire

It all started in 2018, when we bought the land of our dreams, overlooking the Serra da Estrela.

We began designing the architectural project exactly in line with our family’s vision. At that time, we were already expecting our daughter.

On January 16, 2023, the license application for the ruin on the land was approved for the Alteration and Expansion of a Single-Family Home. It took five years of bureaucracy and legal steps.

During those five years, our plans to build the house involved the whole family, especially my father with his backhoe to do all the excavation for the foundations and the space around the house.

But in 2023, our plans were surprised by a new dream. We fell in love with another plot of land. After five years of trying everything to build, we fell in love with another paradise.

We sold the initial plot, now with an approved construction project, and its new owner quickly arrived — full of dreams, ideas, vision, and above all, affection and respect for the land. We were very happy that the right person had arrived to continue bringing our dream to life, now his dream, and we were certain it was in the right hands.

We became friends from the moment we signed the deed, when we met for the first time. We shared everything we had already done on the land — agroforestry planting, irrigation systems — and had many conversations, until the proposal came for our family to participate in the construction of the house. It was with great honor that we accepted.

With the dream continuing, came the possibility of staying involved in building the house we designed for ourselves. I will be involved in the construction with my structural carpentry company, and my father started the excavation work with his backhoe, just as we had planned from the beginning.

With over 30 years of experience operating backhoes, my father decided in 2024 to invest in a new machine, which he used here for the first time to bring to life the dream that began in 2018.

After two weeks of intensive excavation, on August 17, 2025, fire came down the hill and reached our paradise. The machine was there; the flames arrived, and they were not gentle. The machine got totally destroy.

My father was devastated, the work was interrupted, and now we need help to keep our plans moving and to help my father get a machine again so he can work.

Tudo começou em 2018, quando comprámos o terreno dos nossos sonhos, com vista para a Serra da Estrela.

Começámos a desenhar o projeto de arquitetura exatamente de acordo com a visão para a nossa família. Nessa altura, já esperávamos a nossa filha.

A 16 de janeiro de 2023, foi aprovado o pedido de licenciamento da ruína no terreno para Alteração e Ampliação de Moradia Unifamiliar. Foram cinco anos de burocracia e legalizações.

Durante esses cinco anos, os planos para a construção envolveram toda a família, principalmente o meu pai, com a sua retroescavadora, para fazer todas as escavações das fundações e do espaço em volta da casa.

Mas em 2023 os nossos planos foram surpreendidos por um novo sonho. Apaixonámo-nos por outro terreno. Depois de cinco anos a tentar de tudo para construir, encontrámos outro paraíso.

Vendemos o terreno inicial, já com projeto aprovado, e o novo proprietário chegou rapidamente — cheio de sonhos, ideias, visão e, acima de tudo, carinho e respeito pela terra. Ficámos muito felizes por ter chegado a pessoa certa para continuar a dar vida ao nosso sonho, que passou a ser o dele, com a certeza de que estava em boas mãos.

Ficámos amigos desde o momento da escritura, quando nos conhecemos pela primeira vez. Partilhámos tudo o que já tínhamos feito no terreno — plantação de agrofloresta, sistemas de rega — e tivemos muitas conversas, até surgir a proposta de a nossa família participar na construção da casa. Aceitámos com grande honra.

Com a continuidade do sonho, surgiu a possibilidade de continuarmos envolvidos na construção da casa que desenhámos para nós. Eu estarei na construção com a minha empresa de carpintaria de estruturas, e o meu pai iniciou os trabalhos de escavação com a sua retroescavadora, como planeado desde o início.

Com mais de 30 anos de experiência em retroescavadoras, o meu pai decidiu, em 2024, investir numa máquina nova, que usou pela primeira vez aqui para dar vida ao sonho iniciado em 2018.

Após duas semanas intensivas de escavações, no dia 17 de agosto de 2025, o fogo desceu a colina e chegou ao paraíso. A máquina estava na obra, as chamas chegaram e não foram meigas. Ficou completamente destruida.

O meu pai ficou desolado, a obra ficou interrompida e agora precisamos de ajuda para continuar os planos e para que o meu pai possa voltar a ter uma máquina para trabalhar.
