Project Nourish the Frontline

Dear Generous Teammates,
Thank you for making “Project Nourish the Frontline” a beautiful gift to the San Diego Community. We are happy to have completed the project!
The last couple of months have been a time of loss for us all. Each one of us experiencing it in a different way. We fear loss of health and loved ones. Certainly security, freedom and togetherness have been compromised. This project allowed us to fill these voids as we served the frontline healthcare workers. As donors we were able to gift our local heros with encouragement, community, hope and a great meal. The local businesses that provided the food expressed joy and purpose at being part of something meaningful and important.
I want to thank each one of you and extend a special thank you to the repeat donors that helped deliver the final meals. We lacked nothing in this endeavor. God blessed us with everything we needed. We had helpers like Kelly Golden (gourmet muffin lady) who delivered Parisian muffins and Peets coffee to several hospitals. She enlisted her daughter Lexi, Assistant Manager at Peets Coffee in Solana Beach to provide coffee at a good price. A grateful thank you to the following: Shana Mezzanatto McNair RN for promoting the project online and assisting with Scripps Hospitals, Elizbeth Littrell RN for navigating the project design and insuring UCSD hospitals were served, Jaime Carroll RN for supporting the East County Hospitals and becoming the “face” of the project on the GoFundMe page, Lori Vallen for inviting her middle schoolers to participate and for securing amazing feasts from California Pizza Kitchen and Ben Fairweather for making some amazing sandwiches (Culver Brewery). A very special thank you to James Carroll, my husband for writing personal thank-you notes to each person who donated and for supporting me every step of the way.
San Diego’s healthcare community is small and tightly connected. With your help we were able to serve my friends and colleagues in a once in a life time way. Thank you for allowing me this personal fulfillment and privilege!
Number of Donors: 75
Money donated and spent: $5948
Meals served: 1050

Units served: 28
Sincerely, Karen Carroll RN
Our Story and Goals:
Frontline Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Staff are feeling the strain and fatigue of caring for COVID-19 patients in San Diego, CA. My fellow nurses are concerned as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is in short supply and the virus is still an unknown. The community will need healthy ICU staff who are prepared to care for our sick friends, family and neighbors.
We want to nourish San Diego’s frontline ICU hospital staff with food and notes of encouragement during these difficult times. Let's make the RNs, MDs, Respiratory Therapists, Pharmacists and Housekeepers smile under their masks!
With help from you and local businesses our goal is to deliver a meal to every ICU in the county at least once during this Pandemic. Once all have been nourished we will circle back around and serve another meal to each ICU in San Diego.
Our vision is to include a string of “thank you” notes from you with each meal delivery. Write a few words of appreciation and encouragement with your name and where you live. If you have a particular heart for a certain hospital please acknowledge this and I will be sure it gets to that hospital. You can send your notes using the contact button.
Please donate and nourish our frontline!
Thank you for making this possible.
