Hello!
As you may know, since my Habitat trip to Madagascar in 2009, I have been a supporter of an organization called the Lemur Conservation Foundation. You can learn more about them here: https://www.lemurreserve.org. In a nutshell they do conservation and education work in the US and in Madagascar. Below is a picture from my trip years ago!
You also may know, that my husband Andy is VP of Operations at Fork Farms, a sustainable agriculture technology startup, where they produce and sell units called "Flex Farms" that grow a wide variety of greens super resource and energy efficiently. https://forkfarms.com They usually sell these farm units to places like schools, hospitals, stadiums, homeless shelters, etc.
Andy came home from work a few days ago, and mentioned that they had gotten an inquiry from a zoo. I immediately thought of the LCF and wondered if it would be something that would be helpful for their mission and lemur reserve in Myakka City Florida, and decided that if so, I would like to buy them a Flex Farm and donate it. We had a meeting with them this week and the answer as I suspected is that its a PERFECT option for them, will help them solve some Lemur diet challenges they have, and with greens that are much cheaper, easy to produce, and way higher quality!
So, I am in no matter what of course, but I am excited to send this note out and see if anyone else is interested in contributing to help me make this happen!! Any small amount is greatly appreciated and NO OBLIGATION at all. I'd ask you to also please share with others that might be interested in supporting the lemurs! One final note is that the Fork Farms team will be selling me a heavily discounted unit through their charitable foundation, and this will not contribute to their revenue, or someone's incentive pay. We are still working on logistics but I am even considering making Andy train me up so I can go down to FL and volunteer to help them set it up.
Thanks for considering!
Joanna
