Nicolle Gainey-Roberson is a 41 year old mother of 3--Jazzmyn, who is 18, Esrenee who is 8 and Eric is 6.
Nicolle's symptoms initially started with a cough every now and then. She went to see her doctor who told her that her lungs sounded clear. Over the span of about 6 months, she lost 50lbs and developed a relentless itch over her body. She sought out several different doctor's opinions and when she got the results of a chest X-ray, she was sent for an immediate CT scan. It was then determined that she had "multifocal pneumonia" and referred to a pulmonologist for further testing. Nicolle was eventually sent for a bronchoscopy and then hospitalized for a week while they kept her on antibiotics and ran a multitude of tests.
After her discharge, Nicolle was sent to a thoracic surgeon as they determined that the top of her left lung was necrotic and needed to be removed. She was given an MRI, PET scan, ECCO and PFT. The results were devastating. She was told that she now needed a lung biopsy for the right lung because of what looked to be nodules that had spread.
Final diagnosis: Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Nicolle awaits chemotherapy and is in for the fight of her life.
