Katie is an eight-year-old Shetland Collie that was injured while at Paws of Paris (10th & Maple - Odessa) in late April. She has lost the use of her front leg and needs carpal orthopedic surgery in Dallas to repair the damage.
The owner filed a claim with Nationwide Insurance. The adjuster says they may replace "the puppy", but repairing Katie's leg is very unlikely. She's NOT an inanimate object that can be just thrown away and replaced like a wrecked car. Katie is an Emotional Support Animal and a living and breathing companion.
Under modern bailment laws, courts routinely hold negligent businesses responsible for the actual cost of veterinary care required to cure the animal, regardless of market value.
The estimation quotes for the surgery, post-op rehab, and associated medical expenses are over $11,000. It's going to most likely involve legal litigation. Any little bit you can give will help.
