NOT AN ORDINARY DAY – A Short Film
Written and Directed By Virginia Woodruff

Your gifts will support a new and powerful present day story dealing with cancer, Covid and systemic racism. Please join  the  community helping me launch my inaugural film project

Once I began a career in musical theatre, I thought it was the “end all to be all”.  And it still is.   However, when I discovered my passion for writing to be as fulfilling and as exciting as singing, I was astounded.  To be able to capture these words on film is a major step in this world where I often glean understanding through intestinal connections.  I am grateful to those who have been willing to assist in this film endeavor, but as in life, nothing is without a cost.

Please donate in support of my short film, NOT AN ORDINARY DAY.  We are uplifting our creative community while sharing a timely narrative.

As we are in an unprecedented world, the art we make can help one another in facing life’s unrelenting challenges.  To create this love labor is to generate a creative space for all those involved:  Actors, Sound Designer, DOP, AD/Editor and the CCO (Covid Compliance Officer - you must now have at least one on set), to also include professional wardrobe and hair departments, et al.  Pre-production, production and post-production all take time.  To allow for this time and opportunity, I am asking you to support this GoFundMe.

For those of us who have had our livelihood pulled from under us, I am asking your well wishes for this venture.  Those of you who are able and in support the arts, I invite you to assist in the continuation of artistic expression-particularly this passion project.  It will not only bring sustained  awareness to what is happening in our world right now, it will also keep afloat those dreams we desired before it all came to a complete halt.

Thank you for giving, thank you for sharing this information with others.

Love, peace and Blessings,

Virginia, aka “Aunt Ginny”

About Virginia Woodruff & her writing:

I was privileged to witness a reading of Virginia’s play ANTOINETTE: Lost In A Changing World. I was struck by how relevant the story was. I was impressed by the depth of the characters and felt an overwhelming sense of excitement about the play’s future and for Virginia Woodruff’s ascent as a writer.  Your support is needed and it is well worth every penny offered.

It's rare to meet someone with whom you have an instant connection.  Virginia is one of those rare and special humans for me.  She imbues a spirit of generosity, warmth, and intelligence into every encounter,  conversation, and partnership.  I know we'll enjoy a long and fruitful friendship, and I am thrilled to contribute to what I know will be her exciting new film.

I was fortunate to be one of the people in the room every week to watch as Virginia brought her first play, Antoinette: Lost in a Changing World, to life.  I watched as this story unfolded of a woman unable to accept the her late-twentieth-century world as it is, even when it meant losing her son and, perhaps now, her daughter.  Antoinette is not a heroine. You see her faults, her prejudices, her fears, her pain.  All the characters are drawn with potency—they are human and the stuff they face is not easy:  a lightbulb flickers as we get close to some unspoken truth; the silent child finds her voice; and chasms appear that seem unpassable...
I was also in one of the virtual rooms as Virginia began creating her newest work, Not an Ordinary Day. I witnessed the richness and honesty of her writing, grounded in the rawness of this difficult time in our country. But beyond the very powerful story line of Covid and the protests, the heart of Not an Ordinary Day are it’s characters— a woman dealing with cancer in the midst of everything else happening in the world around her; others finding themselves braving the pandemic to fight injustice;  a mother overcoming her fears to support her son; and a symbol of our youth rising up to change the world.
I’m so happy that she is venturing out and filming Not an Ordinary Day—a piece of our time, of this moment we are in now, and timeless.
