Not all Super Heroes Wear Capes - Karlee Beck

Kristi and Devin Beck received some of the worst possible news on December 1st, 2022. Their 8 year old daughter Karlee was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, also known as Juvenile Diabetes. It is not a disease that has a cure, and treatment for the disease is life long at this point. With medication the disease can be maintained but the simplest of stresses can set someone with Type 1 into a tailspin. The notion that Type 1 diabetes can be handled strictly just by diet and exercise is just an outdated one and something that most do not understand.

The other thing that most people do not understand about Type 1 diabetes is that it is an endless drain financially. The initial setup of all of the things that the Beck's need to help Karlee be successful are much more than what insurance covers. Even with insurance, Kristi and Devin are facing a large financial burden just from the stay at the hospital because of high deductibles.

They need our help. They are a family that would give anything, to anyone, and we need to do the same. As someone who has been a Type 1 Diabetic for 31 years, I am asking you to please help me in setting them up on the right foot in this journey that they are about to embark on. There are going to be endless visits to Albany to see the specialist there. They need an insulin pump to help them have better control over her numbers. They need a continuous glucose monitor to help watch Karlee's sugars 24/7. These items need patches and tapes and swabs. They will need to purchase things to help Karlee still be an athlete. There are just many things that are needed to help a diabetic be successful and they all come at a high cost.

The Beck's need us - the community that they support. Please help me in giving Karlee the things that she needs to be as healthy and as successful as possible in this new reality that they are now living in.
