We simply cannot wait any longer to take action to make our beaches safe; and to do so, we need your help.
Deeply moved and inspired by the recent drowning deaths on our beaches, in January 2021 Nosara Ocean Safety (NOS) was formed by a group of passionate community members, business owners, and locals alike calling Nosara home. Nosara Ocean Safety ‘s goal to cultivate education, awareness and safety in and around our beautiful beaches of Playa Guiones and Playa Pelada. We want to keep you and your loved ones safe on this beautiful, majestic and powerful oceanside community we call home.
A community empowered to keep our beaches safe and fun for locals and visitors through prevention, education, and awareness.
Empower, educate, train, and organize our community to build a strong collective movement of ocean safety that will make our beaches safe and fun for all, locals and visitors.

What is the NOS Surfguard Initiative:
While our long term goal is to work with the Bomberos de Nosara on establishing a lifeguard program, the Nosara community still needs a solution in the interim. The need to train at least 100 of Nosara's key water people, what has now become the NOS Surfguard Team, came about by talking with the community on how we can best prevent future accidents and be ready if a situation would occur tomorrow. Our community members that are frequently in the water are the best demographic to help when dangerous situations arise in the water. The more empowerment, education, and awareness our key Nosara waterpeople have, the more likelihood of preventing serious accidents.
From the NOS Surfguard Initiative's Basic Ocean Safety and Rescue Training, our key waterpeople learn ocean safety theory, scenarios, rescue techniques, rescue equipment and how to put it into practice with and without equipment, and with both conscious and unconscious victims.
Since the start of the Surfguard Inititative, Nosara has experienced 2 major and dangerous swells, one of which during the busiest week of the year, Semana Santa. Already we are seeing successes: we happy to report that there were no fatal accidents during Semana Santa, and during both swells NOS Surfguards helped rescue distressed peoples.
As you can tell, we are happy to have accomplished so much since February 2021, however, we still have much further to go! Which is why we’re asking for your donations. You can help provide essential tools and establish rescue, prevention and education protocols and programs in Nosara!
Most importantly, your donation will help save lives.
