I realize this is an unorthodox way to pay for college but, as of the past months, it has become my only option.
In the simplest terms, I'm a Civil Engineering major at Norwich University who, despite attending on multiple merit scholarships, is unable to get student loans due to family financial issues. Most people that I discuss this with tell me to transfer, or take a gap year or even wave off my trouble and wish me luck. However, the prior options will only present more financial trouble down the road. Thus after speaking with one of the most respectable individuals I have ever met, instead of turning away, he suggested starting a Go-Fund-Me, so... here I am.
Now instead of giving a sob-story, why don't I just explain who I am.
I am an eagle scout.
I graduated high school with decent grades (3.4 GPA).
I scored a 1380 out of 1600 on my SAT
I am on the NUCC Regimental Drill Team.
I have exceptional scores on the Air Force Officer Qualifying test.
I have three siblings who are relying on me to make it through college.
I enjoy volunteering, especially for the Salem Nutrition Center back home.
I have an old soul and enjoy reading, ballroom dancing, drawing, and everything about the outdoors.
That's me in a nutshell and for my entire life I've known the answer to that age-old question, "Where do you want to be in 20 years?" I have always wanted to be a civil engineer for Disney World, building kids dreams. This would also enable me to help put my baby sister through college and someday even kids of my own.
As more time passes, I feel like that's slipping away from me. With no student loans, I owe 12,000 dollars a semester by the end of the term which for the current semester is December 25th. This money is simply to cover the costs of room and board and other non-tuition related fees. Therefore, I've devoted my free time to filling out random scholarship giveaways and essay applications, not to mention working whenever possible. At least it makes me feel like I have a say in what happens though.
I don't know if joining this site is going to work but, even if it doesn't... I would like to say thank you for simply giving me the time it took you to read this. If you do decide to help, then I can't put into words how grateful I am for your support. Just know, I will never forget what the people on this site did for me. Thank you.
