UPDATE 2/10/25
I am saddened to have to write this but there is an attempt by a few unkind people in Europe casting aspersions, creating rumours on social media platforms that Alistair Hughes is using these donations for unrelated things. This is a deliberate and very unkind ploy to prevent people kindly donating to this cause for the much needed funds for legal fees and the return of Alistair's cats.
I am writing this with assurance that ALL donations are protected and held in trust by a third party, as per Alistair Hughes' request, and will only be transferred direct to the legal firm and pet transport company as and when required.
Alistair Hughes of Valhalla Norwegian Forest Cats - South Africa (English Born)
Alistair is a long term worldwide well respected , exceptional Norwegian Forest Cat breeder who has preserved the breed in South Africa owning the cattery Valhalla Norwegian Forest Cats for 10years.
In Early April 2025 , Alistair who lives alone required an extended hospital stay after under going an operation. A trusted long term friend ( or so he thought) offered to take his cats and kittens to her cattery in Stellenbosch area , Cape Town. She was to look after them as per written agreement, until such time Alistair came home and was fully recovered. He is now home and misses his cats VERY much and has requested their safe return 3 weeks ago. As a result of Alistair's request in early August 2025 , the cattery owner has blocked him on all social media platforms so Alistair cannot contact her. They are refusing to send them back to him. In Alistair's words " I am absolutely heartbroken, they are my life and mean the world to me." This so called friend has also advertised Alistair's kittens as her own , sold them, retained the money and he does not know where they are. Alistair has repeatedly asked for the return of all of his cats and kittens, but this new Norwegian Forest Cat breeder/ boarding cattery establishment owner, refuses to supply him with any information . What has now transpired as an honourable agreement and favour between friends to help Alistair in time of need has now shifted to a business arrangement by the cattery owner who is now sending him a massive and very over inflated bill for their care during his stay in hospital and Alistair's cats and kittens are now held to ransom. The business arrangement is now a result of Alistair asking for his cats and kittens to be returned.
Alistair has now much worldwide support among the Norwegian Forest Cat breeders. Due to Alistair's extended stay in hospital , he is now in financial difficulty and requires funding to get his cats and kittens back. At the present moment in time this situation is causing him immense stress, deep sadness , trauma and a sense of loss and betrayal. Any help, no matter how small, would be gratefully received. These cats and kittens need to be returned to their owner and home.
This is every Pedigree Cat breeders NIGHTMARE.
Alistair's words
" My cats are being held to ransom despite her selling MY kittens and keeping the money for them. I would welcome any help from anyone. Thankyou in anticipation"
Alistair needs to raise funds for his lawyer to get the cats returned.
A Thank you message from Alistair Hughes to you all
"I cannot even begin to thank every single one of you that have donated to my GoFundMe that will enable me to get my cats, as well as kittens, back from a very difficult and absolutely devastating situation. I wouldn’t be able to do this all by myself as it’s been a very emotionally, upsetting and stressful hard time for me. Just knowing that there are so many people out there who care, gives me assurance that I will be able to afford to get my precious Norwegian Forest Cats returned to me safely.
In order to assist me with getting them back, I have engaged the services of a solicitor who regards this as a serious misdemeanour and is now involved in the negotiation process.
These Norwegian Forest Cats are a very special to me and are regarded as a part of my family. I have learnt a lot about the breed, history and the importance of preserving them as they should be which is why I am so passionate about my cats.
So, I say thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. This is much appreciated"
Alistair Hughes
