Northridge Academy's FIRST-EVER Playground
Donation protected
Please help us build our first-ever playground for our students!
Northridge Academy in Flint, MI wants to build a playground that is fun, safe, and practical at our school. We have never had a playground and our video was one of five selected and won a $20,000 grant through KaBoom. Our students already face overwhelming challenges in their daily lives. Our school needs a playground where students can socialize, increase self-esteem, destress, improve collaboration, and enhance critical-thinking skills.
In order for us to complete this project, we need to raise $5,000 to cover the remaining costs of the playground, shipping, and food/supplies for our volunteers for our build day in August 2021.
History of Flint in a nutshell
Since the 1950's, Flint, Michigan has transformed from an automotive manufacturing boomtown, to a city in heavy decline. General Motors has gone from employing over 80,000 people before the 1970's, to employing just 8,000 as of 2005. With this economic decline, Flint has experienced depopulation, increased crime rates, median housing rates well below the state standard, and as of 2014, a water crisis that resulted in lead-tainted water adding more woes onto this city and our students who were poisoned. On top of our first pandemic, which we call the water crisis, we now face the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please help us, every little bit helps!
