Tuesday morning, October 17th was a morning like any other for the Martinez-Johnson family.  Five sweet siblings (Delvin 8, Danae 10, Bryanna 10, Atiyana *the hero* 11 and their older brother in junior high) got up, got dressed and headed out the door for school.  They walked one block, then crossed the same street they normally cross on their way to school, then suddenly out of nowhere a truck came barreling towards them. Atiyana, the oldest sister in 6th grade bravely pushed her younger brother out of the way and received the brunt of the impact. The truck ran over her and broke her pelvis and hip.

The financial impact on this Northlake Elementary family is truly unknown.  They will have increasing medical bills for not only emergency care, but also for potential surgeries and ongoing physical therapy. Their children will experience post traumatic stress from witnessing this event and they want their children to have some sort of counseling and support. They also will need to take some time off of work to care for their daughter.
