Northern Lights Gymnastics Covid 19 relief
Donation protected
Northern Lights Gymnastics is a very special place where people feel loved and supported. All of the past and present gymnasts have their own stories, memories, and life-long learnings from NLG.
The Covid-19 pandemic has affected individuals and businesses in many different ways and NLG is not immune to this. After the initial shutdown this spring, NLG was able to gradually reopen its programs at diminished capacity in order to keep total numbers of gymnasts down, stagger times for different groups, and allow time for the proper sanitation procedures. Camps were still open this summer with precautions in place, but enrollment was down. Despite our fortunate low infection rates in the dual-state Upper Valley, the numbers started creeping up in NH, pushing nearby NH communities in the “yellow zone” on the VT state travel map. As a result, gymnasts from NH could no longer come to the gym, which is not considered to be an essential business by VT. In one day, NLG lost 75% of their competitive team kids, 55% of their preteam and recreational programs, and 80% of their preschool participants. This is a significant loss of their revenue, about $12,000/ month.
This recent travel restriction has put an enormous strain on NLG. The hope is that with your help, we can sustain the business until our area can bring the infection rates down into the “green” again, which would allow NH residents to return. We need places like NLG to sustain themselves so we have places for our kids to go for needed recreation, exercise, and mental health.
Jill and Peter Vanderpot, along with their daughter Abby and son Jared have put their hearts and souls into running this business. Jill is a valuable asset to the gymnastics community as a head coach, USAG member, and VT State Administrative Committee Chairman. She and Peter run the VT state meet, Green Mountain Invitational, Harvest meet, and various sectional meets throughout the state. Abby is a competitive gymnast and both she and Jared contribute to the family business by teaching recreational classes, running birthday parties, and helping with the tremendous work behind the scenes for gymnastics meets and shows.
Thank you for considering contributing. This is not just about having our kids return to the gym. It’s about continuing to support our beloved and talented group of coaches, office staff, and trainers including Yuriy, Claire, John, Valerie, Brandy, Katelyn, and Danza. Your contributions will help sustain the livelihood of people who have provided so much to the community.
Sincerely,
Janet Simmons (Samantha)
Holly Wilkinson (Casey)
Jeremy and Megan Coylewright (Willa)
Sarah McRae Thrasher (Sydney)
