BC Wildfire Emergency Relief

I will be dedicating my next ultramarathon - an 80km distance on September 16th - to the brave first responders and firefighters who risk their lives while using this opportunity to raise money to help support the communities affected by 2023's devastating wildfires sweeping through BC.

I have chosen to raise money via United Way of Northern BC, which has set up an Urgent Response Fund, which provides immediate support to the communities affected by these wildfires, addressing critical social needs within these communities. The Urgent Response Fund not only offers financial support but also extends to resources such as volunteers, network connections, and staff time and efforts – all valuable in responding to the crisis at hand.

United Way is uniquely positioned to respond to these needs due to their extensive regional connections and a broad network of over 1000 agency contacts. Collaborating with local responders, corporate partners, and its public communications network, they ensure the response is cohesive, effective, and reaches those most in need.
