North Nechako Dirt Road Maintenance Fund
Many people don't know that the dirt road at the end of North Nechako is, and has been, privately maintained by a few dedicated retired residents beyond the cut banks for over 40 years! This road demands year-round upkeep, involving heavy equipment, skilled operators, hours of resident labor for maintenance, parts, fuel, and occasional mechanic services and heavy equipment towing at times.
***Currently the two essential machines used to maintain the road are down and in need of significant repair. We need a rim and other parts for a W14 Case loader (16.9x24 8 bolt pattern) to repair our equipment before winter. Please let us know if you find one or know someone. ***
This road is outside city limits, and not maintained by the city, logging companies, regional district or local First Nation. While it primarily leads to a few private properties and reserve land, many city residents enjoy it for recreational activities such as walking, dog walking, biking, ATV's hunting and river access.
With rising costs and aging machinery, we greatly appreciate any support to keep this vital road accessible. For over 40 years, a few committed residents have taken on this responsibility, but now we need your help.
We would also love some expertise on road building and the support of a dozer in the fall to ensure continued road access for everyone!
