North Dorset Turbos Swimming Club has been a cornerstone of the North Dorset community since 2003, providing a vibrant and supportive environment for competitive swimmers in Gillingham, Shaftesbury, Sturminster Newton, and Mere. We are a volunteer-led club, passionately dedicated to nurturing talent, fostering a love for the sport, and developing well-rounded individuals both in and out of the pool.
Our Mission
To provide competitive swimmers with the best possible opportunities and resources to develop their skills, achieve their potential, and embody the values of dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship. We aim to create a positive and inclusive club culture where every swimmer feels supported and inspired to reach for their goals, from local meets to regional and even national aspirations.

As a volunteer-run club, every penny of our membership fees goes directly towards essential operational costs like pool hire and coaching expenses. While our dedicated volunteers give countless hours of their time, the reality is that the costs of maintaining a high-quality competitive swimming program are ever-increasing. - Maintain and upgrade essential equipment: From lane ropes and starting blocks to training aids and timing systems, top-tier equipment is vital for effective training and hosting competitions. Recently, we made a substantial investment in competition hardware at RiversMeet, our primary training base, which was crucial for continuing as a competitive club.
- Provide high quality coaching: We strive to offer our swimmers the best possible coaching, ensuring they receive expert guidance and support to refine their technique, build stamina, and develop winning strategies.
- Support swimmer development: This includes funding for coaching courses, officiating qualifications for volunteers, and potentially subsidising opportunities for our elite swimmers to attend intensive training camps or competitions further afield, allowing them to gain invaluable experience and push their boundaries.
- Keep swimming accessible: We believe that competitive swimming should be accessible to all talented young people, regardless of their financial background. Your donations can help us ensure that cost is not a barrier to participation.
