Norris' Heart Transplant Fund

Donation protected
In the summer of 2006, my father, Norris Brown, suffered from a serious heart attack. This heart attack has lead to him to develop congestive heart failure. For those who don’t know, congestive heart failure is chronic progressive condition that affects the pumping power of your heart muscles. It specifically refers to the stage in which fluid builds up around the heart and causes it to pump inefficiently. Over the years, he has taken various medicine, has been in and out of the hospital, and even has had a defibrillator installed to try to get his heart working correctly.

Recently, on November 9th, he went to Emory hospital in Atlanta to get a heart cath to see how much pressure is around his heart. It was suppose to a regular outpatient procedure, but he ended up being admitted because he had too much pressure around his heart and fluid buildup in his body. In his first 3 days in the hospital, he lost over 20 pounds of fluid weight. So you could imagine how important the issue was.

He is now on a milrinone drip, which is a machine connected to his heart that helps it beat stronger so the blood can flow better in his body. He has to wear this drip 24/7 and change out the fluid everyday. A nurse also comes to the house twice a week to care and check on the drip.

The doctors have said that this is a temporary solution to a serious situation. Norris is going to eventually need a heart transplant in the future. But before then, there’s a list of things we need to do to get him on the transplant list, and this is where you guys come in. Even with insurance, one of the requirements is a $5k fund to offset medications after the surgery.

It would mean a lot to me and the rest of the family if you could donate anything you have to this fund. I’m going to be the first one to graduate from college in the spring and I would love if my dad would be able to travel to see me cross the stage and also for him to live a long happy life in general.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I do hope you could help us out,

From Selena Brown and family
