This is one of the hardest things I've ever had to write. My husband, Norm Maracle has been diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma, a very aggressive and fast-moving cancer. Everything happened quickly - so quickly that he was admitted to hospital right away so testing and treatments could begin immediately. Because of this, he has been unable to work, and our world has been turned upside down.

Anyone that knows Norm, knows this: he's a fighter! He's spent a lifetime as a goalie - standing alone in the crease, taking the hardest hits, blocking the toughest shots, and never backing down when the pressure is on. He's always been the one people rely on when things get tough. Now he's facing the hardest opponent of his life.

We don't know what the future holds. What we do know is that this fight is aggressive, exhausting and all-consuming. As a family, we are not people to ask for help. We pride ourselves on handling things ourselves. But this is bigger than us, and I can't do this alone.

Right now, I'm trying to be everything at once - wife, caregiver, a mom, full-time nursing student - while standing at his side through the hospital stay, treatments and uncertainty yet to come. He was and has always been my support system when I needed him. Now it's my turn to stand in front of the net for him and do everything I can to help him through this.
