Norma's Rainy Day

This is my beautiful mother, Norma L. DeBooth.

The government system has mercilessly neglected and is oppressing her in various, unacceptable ways.

These include insufferable isolation, where she’s been unseen by PA’s (a.k.a. “Personal Assistants”/”Helpers”) for a week despite being an incomplete quadriplegic who’s insured; and has been left to sleep in her wheelchair for 2 weeks straight. There’ve been various times when I and two others have had to (consensually) climb into her living room window to help her with the assistance needed but hasn’t been given to by those paid by the state.

Norma’s also a product of verbal abuse, cruel & unusual punishment and harassment: my mother’s been yelled at and called “liar” over the phone by her slumlord for circumstances such as her rent being turned-in after (instead of before) 6:00 PM; threatening her with eviction if she doesn’t add an extra $25 “late charge fee.” Her slumlord’s been doing this, knowing how difficult it is for her, as a physically challenged person, to physically make it to the door of the unit from where there’s only one way out of with not enough sufficient & safe exists; 2 clear violations of the Residential Landlord-Tenant Ordinance. I had to personally tell him to lower his voice when speaking to my mom.

The nursing homes are facilities which, in my mother’s words, “I wouldn’t recommend to anyone -- not even an animal.” People eating off other people’s trays due to lack of food, black and brown roaches run around in the daytime as well as the night. People are raped, robbed, beat-up & neglected. Nursing assistants who are paid to work there steal cell phones, are caught looking into purses, and it’s hard to do anything without any surveillance. The feelings of neglect, depression, physical pain have been an unfortunate, horrific & unnecessary reality for my mother (and for the physically disabled [esp. the underprivileged] in communities throughout the country). This causes immediate danger to her health and her safety.

We humbly request your assistance in helping Norma with her moving expenses, including the installation of her needed health devices.

Sincerely, her son,

-LeMar
