Norman Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to carry on the community building and charitable work that Norman began decades ago in our community, for the benefits of high school students to further their education on behalf of Smith Group.
Norman Gregory Smith (72) of Cortez, was born on May 27th, 1948 and passed away August 30th, 2020. Norman passed away after a 10 year battle with dementia. He will forever be remembered by all of his loving family and those whose hearts he touched.
Norman was a well-known businessman in Cortez, CO. In May of 1978, Norman opened and operated his own independent tire store, Cortez Tire. Today, you know it as TireMax and it is owned by Norman’s son, Spencer Smith. For more than 40 years, the Smith Family has been creating opportunities for jobs and serving our community in different ways. Whether it be selling tires or furniture, donating to clubs, being active in church, or creating healthcare opportunities, the Smith Family is always giving back... and it all started with Norman.
Norman was one of the very first people to say YES to building our rec center here in Cortez. Now, the Cortez Recreation Center is one of our most talked about spots in town!
