Norma Rosario’s lasting legacy

Donation protected
Our family is devastated and in complete shock. Please be prayerful for us as a whole.

At Christmas after presenting to the VA hospital for abdominal pain, and after immediate labs, bloodwork and subsequently, scans, Norma Rosario received the heavy and heartbreaking news that she had terminal incurable stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that has spread to her liver and lymph nodes throughout her body.

The VA hospital, probably due to the government shut down, scheduled her for a follow up appointment to this news for more than a month out. This made her nervous. She was discharged and returned home.

Just days later, on January 2, she was in excruciating pain and presented herself to Advent Health Winter Park. They immediately admitted her and started from scratch, performing a whole new work up, tests and scans to reach their own conclusion and medical opinion of her illness as well as to promptly begin a course of treatment. Advent Health also quickly concluded that her cancer is terminal and incurable.

They quickly concluded that she has less than 25% liver function. With this complication, medication options and chemo options, which they explained will not cure the cancer, would be administered at very low doses in hopes to increase her liver function a little and to hopefully buy her a little more time to be with her family.

Only one round of chemo has been given and unfortunately they have informed the family that she is not stable enough at this time for a second round. They have also re-scanned her liver and have confirmed she no longer has any healthy liver tissue, that it all has been replaced entirely by cancer tissue and she is in full liver failure.

The news does not get better. They are suspicious of the kidneys showing signs of beginning to fail.

Members of her church choir have given her a private bedside performance and family and friends have been arranging other forms of good deeds to warm her heart and show her their love.

The palliative care doctor (end of life doctor) has been preparing her as well as the family of what’s to come and has gone over her terminal prognosis. This has been devastating for all to hear, and for you, that is reading this. We know it hurts your heart.

She is a warrior and a woman of unshakable faith. She has expressed her trust in God and her trust in His will. She wants to fight as long as she can, and that is exactly what she is doing. And fiercely.

She has expressed on numerous occasions to close friends that she worries about the burden this is placing on her family at this time and burdens yet to come as she is faced with making decisions about her life’s affairs and wishes about her final arrangements.

It was just in August 2018 that she had her breast mammogram at the VA hospital and it was clear and free of evidence of cancer. So as you can imagine no one was expecting any of this or was prepared for what is happening or what is to come. It’s just devastating and everyone is in severe shock.

It is the doctor’s opinion that she is too sick to return home and will need to remain inpatient and receive 24 hour medical support and the services of Hospice while in the hospital. Today is just January 17th and the family has been told to brace themselves and begin planning for the worst.

For those of you who are able, please try to support Norma however much you can and anyway you can. She has always exuded love, life and joy in to so many people’s lives. She has been a blessing to so many people. She has been the caretaker of so many people throughout her life and has legal custody of three of her grand kids. She wants the gift of peace of mind knowing that they will be taken care of. It’s our time to bless her in return. Please stand with us in support of removing any financial burdens from the family. It’s enough they have the burden of losing their beloved Norma. Thank you and please pray for us all.
