EDIT - sadly Norma Jean has passed away. Her body could not fight the sepsis that had taken over her body. The vet bill still needs paying and all money raised will go towards the intensive treatment she had to try and save her. Full story on Severn Valley Rescue Facebook page.
thank you for your support x
Norma Jean, the rejected orphan donkey, is poorly again… And we need more help.
On Saturday morning we noticed that she wasn’t quite herself. She was quiet, and not as naughty as usual, and she took some persuading to drink her bottle.
I took her temperature and she was running a fever. So we decided not to waste any time and called the out of hours emergency vets.
By the time we got her into clinic she had started to have explosive diarrhoea and was making a complete mess of the surgery.
We spent three hours at the vets undergoing tests, having scans, taking bloods etc, and it appears that Norma has another infection- possibly still coming from her lungs.
The vets can see an abscess on her lungs on the scan and they want to do a biopsy to figure out the exact course of treatment to target it.
For now, she is back home and on medication to try and solve her poorly tummy, pain relief and anti inflammatory meds, and we are keeping her warm and snuggly and making sure she stays hydrated, but it looks like more bumps are ahead for little Norma.
Is she worth it? I think so. I just hope and pray everyone else agrees as we have already used all the funds raised on her previous treatment for her plasma transfer, sepsis and lung infection , and now we need to go again.
She is 12 weeks old on Monday- please help us to help her get to be a weaned and independent little donkey.
She is so special. X
