Norma Gilchrist Medical & Joel C. Memorial Fund

Hi, thank you for visiting our GoFundMe for Norma Gilchrist who will receive all the funds raised. She is so very loved by her family and many friends!

Norma just recently lost her husband, Joel C. Gilchrist on December 11th due to health issues. The family then decided to hold off memorial services due to the weather until a later date and now due to Norma's health. Norma had not been feeling well since the end of November which was initially diagnosed as bronchitis and then pneumonia. After having a scan, showing a mass in her lung, losing her voice and a relentless cough, it was decided to take her to the emergency room at Mayo right after Christmas. There she learned that she has stage 4 small cell lung cancer that has metastasized to other areas of her organs. She received her first round of chemo the week of January 9th. She recently was hospitalized due to an infection which will delay the next series of treatments. She was released to home on the 31st. The week of February 6 she will go to Avera in Sioux Falls for the 2nd round of treatment. Please keep Norma and the rest of her family in your prayers. She and her family have had so much to take in lately. The loss of a Husband, Father, Grandfather, and friend is hard to overcome. Joel C Gilchrist was and is very loved by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. All the stress of an extremely aggressive cancer diagnosis while dealing with grief can be so overwhelming for anyone to bear. There has not been enough time to process all of this.

This GoFundMe was set up to help ease traveling costs and other needs for her medical care as well as costs associated with a memorial for Joel C. Gilchrist. Due to the unexpected loss of her husband, Norma's household income has also dreadfully been reduced. Making it harder to fill in all the gaps of this great loss and treatment costs.
