Original Message: Saturday Sep 9 at 2:30 pm: My sister, Norma Chase (a single mother living in St. Martin) and her kids (Jayde, Remy and Josh) are stranded on the island after being hit hard by Hurricanes Irma and Jose. Norma welcomed Josh to our family after he was recently orphaned. So, she is caring for three now.
They will no longer have the use of their home (they have literally lost the roof over their heads). They have lost much of their belongings and the hurricanes have taken away her business and her income. The island will be largely uninhabitable for the near future. There has been serious looting and robbing of people in their homes by armed gangs. So much terror!
At this time, they are desperately looking for some form of evacuation to safety and need help with this. Once we can get them off the island they will then have to start their lives anew with a home, clothing, schooling, a new source of income, etc.
During a very brief period of contact, we received an email from Norma and the kids this morning (Sep 9 at 5 am) stating: " ... We are camping in the living room, we are trying to barricade off the upstairs (before the second huge hurricane arrives later today). We will be seriously flooded and Jayde's room will take on a lot of water ... More shooting in our neighborhood last night. I'm trying to find a way to get the kids off island even if it's one at the time, I love you."
We need to help Norma and the kids regain some semblance of their lives. Any amount, regardless of how small or large, will be very helpful and much appreciated.
