Nora's Family Needs Help

My name is Delaney McGinnis and I am creating this fundraiser on behalf of two of our Nora's Fish Creek Inn employees.

If you’ve been to Nora’s Fish Creek Inn, you’ve likely met Jimmy and Fatima Corona. Fatima is the beautiful smiling face who greets you when you come in the door and Jimmy is either behind the bar or serving guests in his warm, proficient manner.

While the couple works tirelessly, they cannot begin to outwork the exorbitant medical bills – $35,000 – they amassed during Fatima’s recent pregnancy, during which she suffered life-threatening complications. Without health insurance, expenses began accumulating early in the pregnancy when Fatima hemorrhaged twice in the first trimester. At 28 weeks, she suffered a similar incident, which required emergency medical transport via helicopter to ERMAC in Idaho Falls, where she was hospitalized for a week. A diagnosis of placenta previa further complicated her pregnancy and added to the young couple’s mounting medical debt.

On November 27, Fatima was told to expect a normal delivery upon her check in at St. John’s in Jackson. However, a day later, the baby’s heart rate plummeted and she underwent an emergency c-section. Fatima began hemorrhaging again, necessitating an emergency blood transfusion. When the hemorrhaging continued unabated, she had emergency surgery. The doctors recommended that she have a second surgery and emergency hysterectomy to save her life and to stop the hemorrhaging.

For that surgery, Fatima was transported by ambulance to the Jackson Hole Airport, where she was flown by a medical emergency airplane to the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City. With their newborn son in the care of Fatima’s parents, Jimmy did not leave her side.

She was hospitalized for a week and was diagnosed with blood clots on her lungs, a condition that requires a year of blood thinners that cost more than $600 each month. As a result of her traumatic experience and near loss of life, Fatima is also taking an antidepressant medication that contributing to their monthly expenses.

I hope that you will consider helping this young family focus on the work they love, the joy of their family and Fatima’s health, rather than the stress of mountainous medical debt. I can think of no one more deserving.
