Nora's Bucketlist trip to Malta
Donation protected
Hi Folks,
In 2016 Nora was diagnosed with bowel cancer and underwent surgery to remove a large part of her bowel. Surgeons were confident that they had removed all tumours. In 2017 Nora commenced studies at Southern Cross University for an Associate Law Degree and graduated in February 2020. Coincidentally, on her graduation day, she learned that her cancer had returned and had now spread to her liver.
In December 2020, about 70% of her liver was removed in a mammoth operation. This was followed by a round of chemotherapy. Unfortunately, this 1st round of chemo was unsuccessful and left her with peripheral neuropathy and various other side effects. But, she did keep her hair!
In January 2022, Nora’s surgeon advised that the tumours had returned were now inoperable. The only treatment option left was further chemo which she commenced in February. In April we learned that this 2nd round was also not working too well as the tumours had increased in size. The medicos added further drugs to the chemotherapy. We now call her Baldilocks.
All jokes aside, it will determined in August if the combined drugs are keeping the tumour growth under control.
Nora has a window of opportunity in September to visit her homeland Malta one last time.
Accommodation in Malta has been kindly offered by Nora’s brother Paul and his wife Sue and her niece Kath. However, airfares, travel insurance, stopovers and accommodation along the way all add up. Having been ill for quite some time, Nora has been unable to work and now relies on a disability pension. I know that many of her friends have already pledged to contribute to this trip for which she is extremely grateful.
I ask you all to dig deep and give what you can to send my darling friend on her dream trip to Malta.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your generosity and kindness.
