Norah & Blake Creek Fire Recovery
Donation protected
In the early hours of Sunday morning on September 6th, my sister Norah was forced to evacuate her home in the Sierra National Forest. She and her partner Blake gathered up what they could as smoke began to fill their home. They packed quickly, as if they were to only be gone a few days. They loaded up their two cats, Meow & Squeak, and their dog Delmur and headed separately down the mountain. Once they reached a safe distance they stopped at a park & ride to come up with a plan of how to overcome this. Norah's birthday was on Tuesday, this was also the day that they awoke to the news that their entire lives had burned down overnight. Norah works as a jeweler and silversmith, while Blake works as a contracted timber faller. Last year they finished building their home based workshop where Norah crafts her beautifully designed adornments and Blake stores and maintains his chainsaws, and other work equipment. The Creek Fire wildfire near Shaver Lake, California has displaced them and thousands others as it claimed their home and livelihood. They have decided to shelter separate, Norah along with their fur babies have headed to a friends house hours away to await what’s next. Blake has decided to stay behind, as he is a logger, he is helping to cut fire lines to help slow the spread as the fire continues to burn. Needless to say they have a rough road ahead of them starting over with nothing and no insurance. While we are happy and blessed that they are safe, recovering will be difficult until the equipment they both need to work can be replaced and a new place to call home is found. We are forever grateful for your contributions towards them rebuilding their lives together. From the bottom of their hearts Norah & Blake thank you.
